2019 URG Scholarship Foundation Award Recipients

1st PLACE / $4,500 / Beth Bruggeman

Nordstrom's Automotive, daughter of Jim & Cheryl Bruggeman

Words cannot express how grateful I am to have been selected as the 2019 United Recyclers Group 1st place scholarship winner! My education has always been extremely important to me and this award will tremendously help me continue my education in medical biology at the University of South Dakota. I am eager to continue learning and eternally grateful for scholarships like this that make that possible. Thank you URG for your willingness to support students and for helping us achieve our goals.

2nd PLACE / $4,000 / Lauren Clark

Jerry Brown’s Auto, daughter of Frederick & Constance Clark

Lauren graduated in 2018 from Indian River HS in Philadelphia, NY. Lauren currently attends Castleton University in Castleton, VT and is majoring in Biomedical and Molecular Biology. She plans to pursue her doctoral degree in Biomedical Research and hopes to someday work in the microbiology research field. Lauren is extremely grateful for the support of the URG Scholarship Foundation!

3rd PLACE / $3,500 / Claire Stack

City Auto Wreckers, daughter of Gene & Chris Stack

I am extremely grateful to have received this scholarship from URG. I look forward to using the award as I attend University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and major in statistics. URG has expanded my opportunities to explore how I can apply statistics to a variety of fields when I begin college in the fall. I appreciate my parents and my teachers’ support throughout high school. Thank you URG for supporting my career goals, and congratulations to my fellow recipients!

4th PLACE / $3,000 / Dylan Fernald

Don’s Automotive Mall, son of Bob & Nancy Fernald

Dylan is a high honor roll student at Elk Lake High School in Dimock, PA. He is a member of the Ski Club, NHS, Student Council & Prom Steering Committee. He is also captain of the volleyball team and a yearbook editor. Dylan will be attending RIT in the fall to major in computing security. I am very grateful to the URG Scholarship Foundation for giving me this award. Thank you so much for helping me to continue my education. I am excited for the future.

5th PLACE / $2,500 / Lissette Garza

Nordstrom's Automotive, daughter of Nelly & Ricardo Garza

I am very honored to have been chosen as a winner of the URG annual scholarship. I will be using my scholarship to continue my educational career at Minnesota State University, Mankato. I have been accepted into my program for Fall of 2019 and will be graduating in May of 2021 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dental Hygiene. By awarding me this URG scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden and have allowed me to focus more on what’s most important, learning.

6th PLACE / $1,500 / Kennedy Matuschka

Rhine Auto, daughter of John & Sherry Matuschka

I would like to thank URG for awarding me the scholarship. Throughout high school I have been involved in various organizations including NHS, Red Team, FBLA, and Student Council. Involvement in these groups has had a positive impact on me that will last a life time. Entering the University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall, I plan on participating in similar clubs to better myself and the community around me. This scholarship will be helpful as I achieve my future goals. Thank you URG.

7th PLACE / $1,000 / Molly Snow

Bay Auto Parts, daughter of Jay & Jodi Snow

Molly is extremely excited to be able to receive this scholarship from URG! She is very thankful to the foundation for allowing her to continue her studies and fulfill her future goal of protecting our environment. She would also like to thank her family, especially her parents, for their ongoing support in her adventures.

8th PLACE / $1,000 / Laramie Dickson

Nordstrom's Auto, daughter of Heather & Keith Dickson

I am a senior at Washington High School. I will be attending Southeast Technical Institute in the fall. The area of study I will be going into is horticulture technology.

9th PLACE / $1,000 / Christian Pacifico

Stoystown Auto Wreckers, son of Joseph & Brenda Pacifico

I am a Sophomore and will be graduating in 2021. I am studying Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Penn State Behrend in Erie, PA. I am currently playing NCAA Division III baseball for Penn State Behrend. I am hoping to advance my studies with this scholarship to graduate college and pursue a Master’s degree in Oncology.

10th PLACE / $500 / Elizabeth Affolter

Conrad’s Auto Salvage, daughter of Mike & Teri Smith

Elizabeth is currently a senior at Colfax High School in Colfax, WI. She is involved in FBLA, FCCLA, NHS and Mentoring. She is currently the secretary of her class. After high school, she is attending the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point to major in Special Education.


1st PLACE / $3,000 / Garrett Pinneo

Kosiski Auto Parts, son of Gary & Kim Pinneo

Garrett is going to school full time for Construction Management. When he is not at school he is working part time at Mama’s Pizza and will be working full time as an intern at PMI Construction. In the past couple of summers, Garrett has worked with Good Job Construction learning the ins and outs of the trade. He worked on drywall, tile, plumbing, building decks and everything in between. With this scholarship, he will be able to continue in the trade to learn and get certified in many areas.

2nd PLACE / $2,500 / Stanley Harper

Midway Auto Parts, son of Anthony & Liana Rodriguez

I would like to thank URG & Midway Auto Parts for their commitment to higher education and the generous scholarship I received. I will put it to good use. I would also like to thank my parents for pushing me to succeed, and supporting me in my past and future endeavors.

Brandon Valley Senior, Gunnar Schettler, will be attending Southeast Technical Institute in the Fall of 2019 in the Collision Repair program.
